The first step is to identify a database to use. Academic Search Complete (the first one in this list) is a good starting point, but If you are not sure which database to choose, the Databases by Topic page will help you decide which database might be best for you. You can then search the database using keywords associated with your topic. You can find a list of tutorials for each database here.
If you are looking for a specific article and you of the publication, you can see if the library subscribes to the publication using Journals.
