Answer

Dissertations not found through the ProQuest Dissertations & Thesis (PQDT) database are often considered to be irreplaceable manuscripts and are therefore mostly unavailable for loan. Some libraries may lend a dissertation if there are additional copies available, but this is rare due to copyright laws. If a library loans a dissertation, it will likely be labeled as in-library use only.

Options for obtaining copies of dissertations for needed research:

  • Purchase from Dissertation Express.
  • Traveling to the holding library and using the dissertation there.
  • Contacting the author of the dissertation.
